A long, thin tube called a PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) line is placed into an arm vein to deliver fluids, food, or medication over an extended period. Cleaning and covering the insertion site to avoid infection is known as PICC line dressing, and securely withdrawing the catheter at the end of treatment is known as removal. Sterile methods are necessary for both treatments to protect the patient. When is PICC line dressing/removal required? The dressing needs to be changed regularly every 7 days or if the dressing becomes dirty or loose to maintain hygiene and prevent infection. When the PICC line is no longer needed, such as after healing is complete, it needs to be removed. Both procedures should be performed under medical supervision. Apollo's this facility is for Patient’s undergoing for long-term treatment, such as chemotherapy, intravenous antibiotics or nutritional therapy. Changing the dressing and eventually removing it is an important part of their care to avoid complications such as infection or blood clots.
